Description
L1622 - Track laying gang ballasting the permanent way north of Whetstone viaduct, Blaby, Leicestershire, circa 1897. Ballast was a stabilising medium used to help keep the rails level and firm. This section of the Railway (Contract No.3, Aylestone to Rugby) was built by Topham, Jones & Railton between 1894-1899.
