Title
L1623 - Brick arch overbridge and contractor's railway near Blaby, Leicestershire
Description
L1623 - 'Greets Bridge, Blaby', Leicestershire (S.W.A. Newton's notes). The cutting that is spanned by this brick arch overbridge has yet to be dressed, and the contractor's temporary railway is particularly badly laid and maintained. Taken around 1897, the photograph is a marvellous illustration of the Victorian landscape being transformed by the railway age. Topham, Jones & Railton was the contractor responsible for building this section of the Line (Contract No.3, Aylestone to Rugby).
