Title
L3371 - Construction in cutting, Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire
Description
L3371 - In this photograph Newton has captured a hive of activity surrounding construction of new railway lines. A three arch overbridge looms across a series of contractor's tracks set in a wide cutting, believed to be located in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire. Towards the left of the image a rake of tipping wagons are piled full of earth, whilst directly in front of them, underneath the middle arch of the bridge, a steam excavator works at completing the cutting. Navvies in the background appear to be hard at work levelling the base of the cutting, whilst in the foreground a wheelbarrow and barrel lie abandoned whilst the men take a break.
