Description
L1446 - Temporary footbridge spanning a cutting at Swithland, Leicestershire, circa 1897. Note the narrow gauge contractor's wagon at the centre of the photograph. The tracks on the left are also temporary rails, but of a standard gauge built to accommodate contractor's locomotives, tipping wagons and steam navvies. This section of the Railway (Contract No. 2, Leake to Aylestone) was constructed by Henry Lovatt of Wolverhampton.
