Title
L1453 - Girder overbridge and contractor's crossing
Description
L1453 - Three boys standing on a contractor's crossing at Calvert, Buckinghamshire, on 7th June 1897. Beyond is a girder overbridge. The rails in the foreground are not the permanent way, but temporary tracks laid by the contractor to bring men, materials and steam powered machinery to the construction site. This section of the London Extension (Contract No. 6, Brackley to Quainton Road) was built by Walter Scott & Co. of Newcastle upon Tyne.
