Title
L3403 - Victorian Chapel in Beaconsfield
Description
L3403 - This Victorian chapel with ornate windows and door was constructed in 1873-4, at a cost to the parish of £1500. Until 1972 it formed part of the Beaconsfield Congregational Church, an organisation which had been running in the area since 1704. As with many of Newton's photographs depicting rural life, the town was situated at close proximity to a Great Central (in this case joint) Railway Line. Interestingly, when the railway opened in 1906 the Sunday School was one of its first users, taking its annual outing that year by train to West Wycombe Hill.
