Title
The Chancellor's House, De Montfort University
Description
The Chancellor's House stands on the corner of Richmond St and Fairfax St, Leicester. The building was originally constructed in the late 18th century as a private residence. In October 1885 the building became 'St Mary Magdalene Refuge for Fallen Women', a shelter/rehabilitation centre for prostitutes in the Archdeaconry of Leicester. In 1912 it was listed as an 'orphan asylum'. It became Newarke Girls' School between 1932-1939, and the Boys School between 1939-2009. De Montfort University took over the building in 2009, renaming it the Philip Tasker Building in 2015.
