L1480 - Chalk cutting on the Great Western & Great Central Joint Line at Saunderton, Buckinghamshire, circa 1903. Beyond is a brick arch overbridge. This powerful photograph is a brilliant reminder of how Victorian rail expansion changed the British landscape. Work on this later section of the London Extension (Princes Risborough to Grendon Underwood) was carried out by Louis P. Nott between 1902-1905.
