Title
L1491 - Contractor's railway and tipping wagon, Loughborough, Leicestershire
Description
L1491 - Looking north along the embankment towards the Stanford viaduct, near Loughborough, Leicestershire, circa 1897. The tracks in the foreground are contractor's temporary rails. From the photograph it is easy to appreciate both the enormous undertaking of Railway construction, and the huge change it brought to the landscape as the Last Main Line moved towards London. This section of the Railway (Contract No. 2, Leake to Aylestone) was built by Henry Lovatt of Wolverhampton.
