Title
L1506 - Brick arch bridge construction
Description
L1506 - One of S. W. A. Newton's more enigmatic photographs, as the location is completely unknown. The image shows the construction of a brick arch bridge/viaduct somewhere on the London Extension. The wooden centrings are in place and the first brick courses have been laid. A large group of navvies are concentrated on the main construction, while a smaller group can be seen in the foreground filling wheelbarrows with bricks. In the immediate foreground lies a lightly laid contractor's line. The date is somewhere around 1897.
