Title
L1098 - Contractors' 0-6-0 saddletank locomotive, CYPRUS.
Description
L1098 - Manning Wardle & Co. 'K' class 0-6-0 saddletank locomotive, CYPRUS, No. 596 of 1877. The locomotive is pictured on an embankment near Brackley in Northamptonshire when working on Contract No. 5 (Woodford to Brackley) built by Walter Scott & Co. of Newcastle-upon-Tyne between 1894 and 1898. Two of the crew stand in the cab while another stands on the running plate near the smokebox. A fourth man stands by the rear of the locomotive. Note the large wooden buffers that CYPRUS carries for shunting tipping wagons.
