Title
L2456 - Graffiti on the door of a house in Charlotte Street, Leicester
Description
L2456 - Photographed around 1896, this graffiti has been chalked on to the door of one of many houses on the west side of Charlotte Street that were demolished to make way for Leicester's Great Central Station. Interestingly, the message appears to read, 'Miss Cooke, she's got a new house', an astute comment given that displaced residents were indeed rehoused at the Railway's expense. Following the house clearance this road ceased to exist, and the Station frontage was then built to occupy much of the site.
