Title
L1655 - Construction of Catesby Tunnel, Northamptonshire
Description
L1655 - Looking north out of the mouth of Catesby tunnel, Northamptonshire. At 2997 yards (2740 metres), the tunnel was the London Extension's longest, and it stood as a testament to the challenge so brilliantly taken on by the engineers who wanted a fast, even Railway, and who were prepared to build tunnels, bridges and viaducts of any size to make this ambition a reality. T. Oliver & Son was the contractor who built this section of the Line (Contract No.4, Rugby to Woodford).
