Title
L1448 - Navvies working on a tip slope
Description
L1448 - Navvies working on a tip slope near Swithland, Leicestershire, circa 1897. The photograph is a fine illustration of the large numbers of men required for the Railway's construction, despite the contractor's use of steam powered machinery wherever possible. This section of the London Extension (Contract No. 2, Leake to Aylestone) was built by Henry Lovatt of Wolverhampton.
