Title
L1402 - Soar Lane Bridge, Leicester
Description
L1402 - In this view of Soar Lane in Leicester, we can see the method by which the viaduct across the city was built. The white faced wall on the left is the bridge abutment, whilst the timber centrings behind will form the shape of one of the viaduct arches. Planks of wood would be laid over the wooden frame and then the brick work would go on top. When the brick work was finished, the centring frame would be dismantled and reused elsewhere. The railway in this area and the nearby Leicester Central Station was built by Henry Lovatt of Wolverhampton as part of Contract No. 2.
