The Toller & Lankester hosiery factory stood on Winifred Street/Jarrom Street in Leicester. On 17th April 1924 the basement of factory caught fire; it was assumed an electric plug malfunctioned, and the fire quickly spread via the wool and silk fluff contained there. The factory was in operation at the time, with over 300 workers present. Luckily the alarm was quickly raised and, thanks to clear fire exits, all the staff escaped. There were no fatalities, though one person sustained minor burns.
