Title
Long skirted corset, 1910: Full length view
Description
Long skirted, straight front corset of 1910, decorated with blue brocade. Features covered wedge busk, steel bones and whaleboning, and six adjustable suspenders.

A black, straight front corset decorated with blue brocade. This is a long skirted style corset, the inside of which has been stamped with the French style marking of "La Chaffeuse reg." However, despite its markings, the corset probably does not originate in France. Its design also indicates that it was produced later than the 1904 patent for the hook-and-eye fastening below the busk.

The patent hook-and-eye fastening and the partly detached front suspenders became standard features on later corsets.

The corset has a covered wedge busk, which is tapered towards the bottom, and is supported with both flat steel and whalebone. Six wide adjustable suspenders are attached to the bottom of the corset and the top is trimmed with satin and narrow ribbon.
