Title
L1098 - Contractors' 0-6-0 saddletank locomotive, ROCKET.
Description
L1098 - A Manning Wardle & Co. built 'M' class 0-6-0 saddletank, ROCKET, No. 871 of 1884. The locomotive is pictured by the brick built platform of the nearly completed New Basford Station. This formed part of Contract No. 1 (Annesley to Leake) which was built by Logan & Hemingway between 1894 and 1899. Two of the locomotive's four crew stand on the footplate with the remaining two on the ground nearby - one of which holds a large oil can. Note the train of wagons on the opposite side of the island-type platform, and the almost new appearance of the locomotive. Of particular interest is the lining on ROCKET that even extends to the spotless wheels.
