Title
L1812 - Constructing the Northgates bridge, Leicester
Description
L1812 - Nearing completion, the bowstring girder underbridge that carried the Last Main Line across Northgates, Leicester. In common with the bridge's demolition in July 1981, a number of people have gathered to watch its construction. Built by Henry Lovatt of Wolverhampton as part of Contract No.2 (Leake to Aylestone), this imposing structure is a marvellous example of how the railways had the power to radically change the Victorian landscape.
