Description
L1001 - Manning Wardle & Co. 'E' class contractor's locomotive, 0-4-0 saddletank, SUTTON, No. 1016 of 1887. The locomotive is seen near Catesby in Northamptonshire when working on Contract No. 4 - the Rugby to Woodfood section constructed by T. Oliver & Sons. SUTTON originally worked on the Manchester Ship Canal contract before coming to assist in the construction of the Great Central's London Extension. The locomotive's driver stands with two of his colleagues around the gleaming engine.
