About Leicestershire County Council
Leicestershire County Council provides a wide range of services to over 600,000 local people. Information about our services, role and work with partners can be found at www.leics.gov.uk. We provide some services on-line, enable you to make your views known and link to other public services in Leicestershire.
The County Council Museums Service is responsible for the care and stewardship of over 1 million objects, which are held in trust for the people of Leicestershire. These have been collected since 1849 and are cared for by specialist curators. These collections are the basis of our museum displays, travelling exhibitions, events programme, community projects and academic research.
The Record exists to preserve and provide access to a wide range of resources, which can be used to research the history and culture of Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland.
The extensive collections date from the Domesday Book to yesterday and include archives, books, newspapers, maps, photographs, videos and sound recordings. You can access all these resources to find out about your family tree, house history, local study, school projects and a host of other topics.
Library Services in Leicestershire are provided from over 40 static and mobile libraries. Libraries provide a wide range of books, DVDs for loan, homework support and public access computers. Larger market town libraries also have extensive local studies collections, which include books, newspapers, photographs and other resources about each locality.
